Last June, WhatsApp banned more than 22 lakh Indian accounts. This information has emerged from the organization's 'India Monthly Report Information Technology Rules, 2021'. According to the report, the messaging platform has received 632 complaints from the users themselves during the mentioned period. The company has also taken action against accounts that have been 'reported' for inappropriate behavior through their own security system.

According to a statement from a WhatsApp spokesperson, WhatsApp is an 'industry leader' in preventing abusive behavior or abuse among platforms that provide end-to-end encrypted messaging services. In this regard, "Over the past several years, we have consistently invested in artificial intelligence and other cutting-edge technologies to provide security to users on the platform," said the spokesperson. Also, WhatsApp also takes action against a particular account if it receives repeated reports or blocking reactions.
WhatsApp also mentioned in its latest monthly report that there were 426 requests to ban accounts and a total of 16 complaints were registered on the platform for security reasons. And based on these complaints, action has been taken against 64 accounts.
According to published reports, 22,10,000 Indian accounts were opened on WhatsApp from 1st June to 30th June 2022. Out of which 22 lakh accounts have been banned from the platform. In this regard, the spokesperson of the company said that, “This user-safety report contains details of the complaints received by the users and also includes information about the corresponding measures taken by WhatsApp. At the same time, WhatsApp also has some preventive measures of its own to counter abusive behavior. Following this rule, our platform banned more than 2.2 million accounts last June.”
